PATRICK BRODERICK

Patrick Broderick: A native of Ireland, was born Nov. 9, 1819, and has resided in Montgomery county, Ind., since 1852. His parents, Patrick and Anna (Larkin) Broderick, are dead; he was married in his native country May 12, 1852, to Catherine Jones who was of same nativity as her husband, born in 1826, and passed from life Jan. 19, 1895. Of this union were born six children, in the order following: Annie dec., Thomas, Julia, Dennis, Annie dec., and Catherine. Comrade Broderick was a laborer and was 43 years of age when he entered the military service Oct. 25, 1862, at Waynetown, Ind. He entered the ranks of Co. D, 63d Ind. V.I., which was assigned to 3d Brig., 3d Div., 23d A.C., and with this command, took part in the battles of Buzzard Roost, Resaca, Burnt Hickory, Kenesaw Mt., Peach Tree Creek, Marietta, Atlanta, Columbia, Spring Hill, Franklin, Nashville, Wilmington and several others, equally important. April 25, 1865, he was transferred at Raleigh, N.C., to Co. K, 12 - 8th Ind. V.I., serving in that command until honorably discharged Oct. 28, 1865, at Salisbury, N.C. Aug. 25, 1865, while climbing a fence at Greensboro, N.C., he fell, receiving an injury to left side of collar bone. November, 1862, he had been given a leave of absence of nine days, returning to command at end of time. Comrade Broderick is a charter member of Steadman Post, his occupation is that of a farmer and his postoffice address is Wingate, Indiana.
